What a great time to be alive

I was at a party last night where many small business owners were in attendance. When the topic turned to contemporary culture and technology, it was fun to hear the many stories of how it has all evolved during the last 10 to 20 years.

A hardware store owner talked about his first mobile phone that was embedded in the body of a brief case. A restauranteur reminisced about seeing a fax machine for the very first time...the original fax, manufactured by Exxon that looked like a coffin with a clear plastic lid, that used a seismograph-like device to transfer data onto the roll of chemically treated fax paper.

Now these same folks are staying connected to family and friends and managing their daily personal and business lives with iPhones, BlackBerrys and "notebook" mini laptop computers. At the incredibly fast pace that technology is advancing, I often take solace in the fact that even on your worst day, there has never been a more exciting time to be alive.
